Peace Alliance between Fukien and Kwong

Tung confirmed.

(from our own correspondent).

452

A report from Swatow on the 28th reads as follows:- As has already been reported, a storm of war has been threatening Fukien and Kwong Tung off and on. Now according to information from a reliable source, the representative sent by Ho Ying Yam to Fukien to negotiate with Chau Yam Yan the conditions for maintenance of peace between Fukien and Kwong Tung, has returned to Swątow. Both parties have agreed with the proposed to make Chiu On a neutral zone between Fukien and Kwong Tung. Chau Yam Yan asked insistently that Chiu On should be allowed self-government and that Kwong Tung should in no way interfere with its administration. Seeing that

Chiu On is already under the control of Hui Hin Shi, leader

of the Peoples Army of Southern Fukien and that the troops

under Cheung Tsing of the Fukienese National Re-construction

Army have only been holding the regions of Wong Kong and Fan

Shui Kwan, Ho Ying Yam considered that Chiu On is in reality

under the self-government of Fukienese, and did not treat the

question as being of great importance. Therefore the negotiation proceeded very smoothly, and proper settlement has now been

reached. The troops under Ng Po Hing of Kwong Tung stationed

at Kwan Taz Tim and Hoi Chow, have been recalled to Fan Shui

Kwan and those under Cheung Ngai of Fukien garrisoning Wan Shiu, withdrawn to Cheung Po. Thus a peace alliance between Fukien and Kwong Tung has been actually realized.
